Jaipur is really starting to feel like a home away from home. I am becoming more acclimated to this new environment and I am really starting to appreciate all the things that makes this country so unique. Today at school we had a celebration because it is the last day of school before children go on holiday for Diwali. We made Happy Diwali cards and I took plenty of pictures. Things are going really well. I have the next three days off because of Diwali and tomorrow I will be going to Karnika's for lunch. I just got back from a very long trip to Varanasi. It was a wonderful trip but travel in India can be very tiresome. A wise man once said, "India is great, but late." This is the truth. My train was suppose to leave Varanasi at 6:00pm on Sunday and it left at 3:30am Monday morning. Just 10 hours late, (another Indian motto, no hurry no worry). Patience is the name of the game here. Varanasi was really great though. Nienke (Holland friend and another volunteer)and I arrived Friday afternoon. Varanasi is one of the most holiest cities for the Hindu people, and most pilgrimage here once in their life time. It is said if you die in Varanasi you will reach Nirvana. Varanasi sits on the Ganges River (which is holy) and the ashes of those cremated here are put into the river. There are five types of people who can not be cremated here and their bodies are deposited into the river. (pregnant women, children under 12, holy men, people with leprosy, and I forgot the last). I have heard from other people that they have seen floating bodies in the river, I however did not. I did however see a cremation ceremony because they burn the bodies on the Ghats (shore line of the river is divided into 20 or so Ghats). On the last day Nienke and I walked the Ghats and people watched and took pictures. It was really incredible. Another very awesome trip!!!
